Egyptian Culture!!

 


Did you know that Egyptian language is the longest lasting language? It survived from 3000 B.C. to the 11th century. Almost no one speaks this language any more. Only about 20 people speak it now. But people are still interested in this culture.   Clothing, language, farming are all  part of this interesting culture.

The ancient Egyptian people used to wear completely white linen tunics with drapes and loin clothes. What clothes you wore depended on what society you were in. For example, if you were from rich society, you might wear a white linen tunic with some very expensive gold jewelry. If you were poor, you might wear just a worn out old tunic. Or, if you were in middle society, you might wear,  for example, not the best linen tunic, but better than the poor. The reason that the rich people wore better clothes than the poor was to show that they had power. The reason that the poor wore old worn out clothing was because they couldn't afford it. 
 The Egyptians all used the Nile river for farming. It was very useful for irrigation. They grew lots of things such as fig trees, wheat, and barley. The Pharaoh used rich peasants to do farming on the good land. The peasants had the jobs of reapers or gleaners. The reapers went through the fields first and they reaped the wheat.  The gleaners went after the reapers and picked up the wheat that fell on the ground.  The ancient Egyptians had these farming tools winnowing scoops, mattocks,  flint bladed sickles, and plows. Winnowing means to get the debris off the grain.

The ancient Egyptian language was the longest surviving language. It was used from 3000 B.C. to the 11th century. They drew pictures and turned them into a language. The pictures are known as hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics are found in and on tombs and stones. Egyptian is one of the oldest recorded languages known. The pyramid texts were the largest body of literature written at that time.

The Egyptian language is mostly gone but people still are interested in the culture it is from. People go to museums to see Egyptian clothing, farming items, and hieroglyphics. King Tut is as famous as any other well known leader. The Egyptian artifacts still amaze people today, even though they are over thousand years old. The Egyptians still influence us today. With out the inspiration they give us today, our culture would be much poorer.

The North wind goddess!!



 The north wind goddess has black hair of silk.
 She sores with grace bring a cool  breeze when the days grow hot.
 Her sisters East, West, and South are known for their beauty, but only the lucky have seen their beautiful sister North.
 She guides you to your dreams when sleep falls upon you.
 With gentle kind blue eyes and long silky hair, she dresses in her dress only made of the softest clouds in the high sky.
 Most say that the three sisters East, West, and South are the kindest they know.
 But none have met their sister North the kindest of all.
 For with out North we would be lost forever.
 For when we lost she guides us home.
 And when we tiered she drift us to the nicest dreams.
 For she is the kindest, and the most gracious.
 We should all be thankful to North the one who guides us, the one who takes us to dreams, and the one who knows most.

It's Just a Game of Tag!!







In Los Angeles, there lived four 13-year-old friends-Amanda, James, Georgia, and Jake. They lived  on Elm Street. They all went to the same school. Amanda had burgundy brown hair and light blue eyes.  James had dark brown hair and brown eyes. Georgia had pure white hair and brown eyes. And Jake has  sandy dark hair with blue eyes. Georgia and Jake were together and Amanda and James were together.  One day they all were walking home from school when James suddenly said excitedly,


"Hey guys,  why don't we visit the old haunted house on Tea Tree Street?"  


Amanda replied, "What are you thinking. James, you know that street is forbidden to go on!"


"Well, we're already in trouble so how much more trouble can we get in?" asked Georgia sarcastically.  


"Yeah, how much trouble would you get in, James?" Amanda said sarcastically.  


"Well, I don't know about you but I actually think it sounds like a fun time. Plus we could play tag  there like we used to," Jake said cheerfully.  


"Jake, what are you thinking? You and I have to go and get to our date at the movies," Georgia  said irritatingly.  


"Oh, come on, Georgia. Why can't we just go to the haunted house? Plus I don't have enough money  to pay for two movie tickets," Jake said now irritated.  


"Well fine, you two boys go and me and Georgia will go and do our homework at home where it's safe  from places like that!"  


 "What? No I'm going with the boys. You can go and do your homework. Playing tag there actually  sounds fun. Plus, I'm not going to let Jake get away with not going to the movies with me!"  


"What Georgia, you're not going with me?" asked Amanda stunned.  


"Oh come on Amanda. You know you want to go! Plus it could be really fun! You never know you  might have a lot of fun!" Georgia said pleasingly.  


"Don't worry, Amanda. We won't be long at all. We'll only play one round of tag!" Jake replied  reassuringly.  


"Oh, I'm regretting this already!!!" Amanda complained. They got there and it looked about 100 years  older than they remember but still they went in and started the game of tag!  


" O.K. We decided that you're going to be it James since you decided that we should come here!" Jake  announced.  


"But that's not fair. You didn't even let me decide!" James complained.  


"Sorry but that's what we decided!" Replied Jake.  


"Fine! 1,2,3,4,5,6,7...," Jake started to count. 


"Run!" Georgia sreamed In the distance, James began, 


"9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30! Ready or not here I come!"
And then when James was about to tag Amanda, she screamed,"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh."  James turned to see a huge man draped in a long black, silk robe with the hood on, walk up to them  and then he stabbed James. James fell curled up at Amanda's feet! She screamed even louder but then  the man stabbed her, too. Jake told Georgia,"Stay here. I'm going to investigate." Then he left her and went to see what all  the screaming was about. But to his surprise it was his friends getting murdered. Downstairs Georgia  waiting for Jake and her friends to come back, heard Jake scream in torture. She suddenly had a  sick feeling and got up crying. She then saw a the man in black robes coming down the stairs and she knew what had happened! She  saw that he had a bloody knife in his hand. She saw out of the corner of her eye a sharp knife on the  floor. She dove and grabbed it and threw it at the man. It stabbed him in the heart. He died and she  went upstairs and found her friend's body's and cried a long sad time. Then she got up and buried  them in the nicest place in the cemetery and had a funeral for them.  
One day she visited them and said aloud to herself, "It was only a game of tag!"                                                       The End!!!

Why Our School Should Get This Money Grant



My name is Presley,  I'm 11 years old. My school music program is falling apart. I think my school should get a money grant. I think we should get this money grant because I live in a small community that's very close. We have a small school with no more than 15 students, including the kindergartners.  We have one small library and only two class rooms. The money we have for our school is made by bake sales, auctions, quilt squares, and any thing the parents are willing to give.  We have no government funds. We're a very poor school, with not many teachers.  


We only get music class once a week, if our music teacher is not sick, and only my class gets  a lesson. We only get about 45 minutes. We are all fond of music and want to learn more. We all like our teacher very much. We only get to learn the recorder and, rarely,  the piano. We all want to learn more but our music teacher doesn't have enough money to get more instruments. Plus my school doesn't have enough money either. I hope we can get this money grant so we can learn more about music.

The Red-Tailed Fox!


The red-tailed fox runs free over the barren creeks and rivers.  Out of the woods, he sees a hunter. He runs, but the hunter has already seen him. 

As he's running, he looks up to see a big black figure hovering over him. He closes his eyes and thinks about freedom. But as he opens his eyes, he's already in captivity. 

There's no trees and no wild. All there is, is a big glass container, a little patch of grass, and a little creek! 

The creek makes him sick and he dies with one wish to be free in the wild again!
